Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 other than Allah? Do they help you or even help themselves' 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
