(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
