The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wound up; 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 Moving swiftly and hiding themselves, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 The rising dawn, 18 Verily it is a Word brought by a messenger honoured, 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 And it is not the word of an accursed Satan; 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 This is nothing but a Reminder to the worlds, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 And what will you wish, except if Allah wills – the Lord of the Creation. 29
