Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
