The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
