The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
