The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
