The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 Eager to roast; 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
