The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
