The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The people’s reckoning is near, whereas they are in neglect, turned away! 1 Never does a new reminder come to them from their Lord but they listen to it with dalliance. 2 Their minds are lost in frivolous pastimes; and the evil-doers discuss secretly: "Is he not but only a man like you? Then why are you taken in by magic seeingly?" 3 He says: 'My Lord knows what is said in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.' 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 There is not a township before them which did not believe which We have not destroyed; so will they believe? 6 For [even] before thy time, [O Muhammad,] We never sent [as Our apostles] any but [mortal] men, whom We inspired - hence, [tell the deniers of the truth,] "If you do not know this, ask the followers of earlier revelation" 7 And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals, 8 Then We fulfilled for them the promise, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors. 9 We have sent a Book, (the Quran), which is an honor for you. Will you then not understand? 10
