Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
