Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
