The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
