And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship' 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
