The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the Visited House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
