The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
