The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
