They will ask thee of Dhu'l-Qarneyn. Say: I shall recite unto you a remembrance of him. 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 With these he traveled 85 until when he reached the very limits where the sun sets, he saw it setting in dark turbid waters; and nearby he met a people. We said: "O Dhu al-Qarnayn, you have the power to punish or to treat them with kindness." 86 He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement: 87 And as for him who believeth and worketh righteously, unto him shall be a goodly hire, and anon we shall speak unto him of our affair something easy. 88 Thereafter he followed a way. 89 Till he reached the point of the rising sun, and saw it rise over a people for whom We had provided no shelter against it. 90 Even so! and We had a full knowledge of what he had. 91 Then he followed a way 92 Until, when he reached (a tract) between two mountains, he found, beneath them, a people who scarcely understood a word. 93 They said: O Zulqarnain! surely Gog and Magog make mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise a barrier between us and them 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 bring me blocks of iron." Then, when he had filled the gap between the mountain sides [he said], "Now blow on the fire with your bellows." When the iron blocks were red with heat, he said, "Bring me molten brass to pour on them." 96 And (Gog and Magog) were not able to surmount, nor could they pierce (it). 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together. 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 (Unbelievers) whose eyes had been under a veil from remembrance of Me, and who had been unable even to hear. 101
