۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people. 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
