Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He abandoned his people 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 So the fish swallowed him while he did that for which he blamed himself 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand or more people. 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So you and your deities 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except the one who will go into the blazing fire. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had had with us a Book like that of the people of old, 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 and see them; soon they shall see! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
