The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 thy robes purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
