Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
