O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do. 51 “And indeed this religion of yours is one religion only and I am your Lord, therefore fear Me.” 52 The people divided themselves into many sects, each with their own book and each happy with whatever they had. 53 So leave them in their bewilderment for a while. 54 Do they think that by all the wealth and offspring with which We provide them 55 We hasten in good works for them? No, they are not aware. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 who have full faith in the Signs of their Lord; 58 and those who associate naught with their Lord 59 And they who give what they give while their hearts are fearful because they will be returning to their Lord - 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 And We tax not any person except according to his capacity, and with Us is a Record which speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. 62 Nay, but their hearts are covered (blind) from understanding this (the Quran), and they have other (evil) deeds, besides, which they are doing. 63 Till, when We seize with the chastisement the ones of them that live at ease, behold, they groan. 64 Invoke not loudly this day! Certainly, you shall not be helped by Us. 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 behaving arrogantly, and making fun, and talking nonsense (about the Book in your nightly chats)." 67 Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old? 68 Or did you not recognize your Messenger and, thus, denied him (Muhammad) 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 If truth had followed their whims and desires, heavens and earth and all that lives in them would have been brought to ruin. Rather We have brought them their Reminder. Yet they keep avoiding their Reminder. 71 Do you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) ask any fee from them? So the reward of your Lord is the best; and He is the Best Provider of Sustenance. 72 You are calling them to a Straight Way, 73 but those who disbelieve the life hereafter deviate from the right path. 74 ۞ If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion. 75 And indeed We grasped them with punishment, so neither did they submit themselves to their Lord, nor do they cry humbly. 76 Until when We shall open upon them a portal of severe torment, and lo! thereat they are desparing. 77
