HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 the people of Pharaoh, who refuse to be conscious of Me!" 11 He said: O my Lord! surely I fear that they will reject me; 12 "My breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron. 13 They also have a sin against me, and I fear they will slay me.' 14 Said He, 'No indeed; but go, both of you, with Our signs, and We assuredly shall be with you, listening. 15 Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, 16 Send forth with us the Children of Israel' 17 He (Pharaoh) said (to Moses): 'Did We not bring you up when you were a child? And have you not spent years of your life amongst us? 18 And yet thou didst commit that [heinous] deed of thine, and [hast thus shown that] thou art one of the ingrate!" 19 Said he, 'Indeed I did it then, being one of those that stray; 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 And this is the favour with which you taunt me -- that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?" 22 Pharaoh said, 'And what is the Lord of all Being?' 23 Moses answered: "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them, if you were only to believe." 24 Pharaoh said to those around him, "Did you hear?" 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 Said he, 'Surely your Messenger who was sent to you is possessed!' 27 (Moses) said: "Lord of the East and the West, and all between! if ye only had sense!" 28 'If you take any other god except myself' he (Pharaoh) replied, 'you shall be thrown into prison' 29 (Moses) said: "Even if I showed you something clear (and) convincing?" 30 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!" 31 Moses threw his staff and suddenly it became a serpent. 32 And he drew out his hand, and it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
