No! By the moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
