The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He verily will be content. 21
