The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
