Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 140
