The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
