We gave Moses the Book, and appointed with him his brother Aaron as minister 35 Then We told them: "Go to the people who have rejected Our signs." Then We annihilated them completely. 36 We had drowned the people of Noah when they had accused the apostles of lies, and turned them into an example for men. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wicked. 37 To each of the tribes of Ad, Thamud, the settlers around the well and many generations in between 38 and unto each of them did We proffer lessons and each of them did We destroy with utter destruction. 39 And indeed they have visited the township upon which had rained a harmful rain; so were they not seeing it? In fact, they never expected to be raised again. 40 When they see thee, they treat thee no otherwise than in mockery: "Is this the one whom Allah has sent as a messenger?" 41 Had we not been steadfast he would almost have led us astray from our gods." On facing torment they will soon know who had really gone astray. 42 Seest thou such a one as taketh for his god his own passion (or impulse)? Couldst thou be a disposer of affairs for him? 43 Do you think that most of them can hear or understand? They are like cattle, no, they are further astray from the Path. 44
