The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
