The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 in a few years. To Allah belongs the Command before and after, and on that Day the believers will rejoice 4 in God's succour: [for] He gives succour to whomever He wills, since He alone is almighty, a dispenser of grace. 5 This is Allah's promise; and Allah faileth not His promise. Yet most men know not. 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled in the land and seen the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? They were stronger than these in power, and they dug the earth and built upon it more than these have built. Messengers of their own came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty). Surely Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
