He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
