Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
