The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
