The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
