And indeed We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Travel by night with Ibadi (My slaves) and strike a dry path for them in the sea, fearing neither to be overtaken [by Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] nor being afraid (of drowning in the sea)." 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them]. 79 Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and promised to settle you on the right side of the peaceful Mount Tur (Sinai) and We sent you manna and quails. 80 saying: "Partake of the good things that We have provided for you, but do not transgress lest My wrath fall upon you; for he upon whom My wrath falls is ruined. 81 I am All-forgiving to the righteously striving believers who repent and follow the right guidance. 82 ۞ 'Moses, why have you come with such haste from your nation' 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 (Allah) said: "We have tested thy people in thy absence: the Samiri has led them astray." 85 So Moses returned to his people full of anger and regret. "O my people," he said, "did not your Lord make you a better promise? Did the time of covenant seem too long to you? Or did you wish the wrath of your Lord to fall upon you that you broke the promise you had made to me?" 86 They answered: "We did not break our promise with you out of our own volition; but we were laden with the load of people's ornaments, and we simply threw them down(into the fire), and the Samiri also threw down something, 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 What! could they not see that it did not return to them a reply, and (that) it did not control any harm or benefit for them? 89
