The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
