The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
