The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: Put him off and his brother, and send collectors into the cities: 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
