۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of delight, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 They will be served with a cup full of crystal clear wine, 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
