The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
