The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
