The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
