Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
