Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And crops and noble sites 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
