The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ They ask you about the windfalls. Say: The windfalls are for Allah and the Apostle. So be careful of (your duty to) Allah and set aright matters of your difference, and obey Allah and His Apostle if you are believers. 1 For, Believers are those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a tremor in their hearts, and when they hear His signs rehearsed, find their faith strengthened, and put (all) their trust in their Lord; 2 Who establish prayer and who expend of that wherewith We have provided them. 3 Are true believers. There are for them (high) ranks with their Lord, and pardon and noble provision. 4 As it was your Lord who rightfully brought you forth from your house, even though some of the believers disliked it, 5 Disputing with you regarding the truth after it had been made clear, as if they were being herded towards a visible death. 6 And lo, God gave you the promise that one of the two [enemy] hosts would fall to you: and you would have liked to seize the less powerful one, whereas it was God's will to prove the truth to be true in accordance with His words, and to wipe out the last remnant of those who denied the truth 7 so that He might prove the truth to be true and the false to be false, however hateful this might be to those who were lost in sin. 8 When you (believers) begged for assistance from your Lord, He said, "I am helping you with a thousand angels, all in rows marching one after the other". 9 And Allah made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. 10
