The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be raised up. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe in him. 38 He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me. 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And certainly We gave Musa the Book that they may follow a right direction. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Prophet Eisa) and his mother a sign, and We gave them shelter on a height, a place to stay and visible springs. 50
