He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
