The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
